草野球の後に下町の空に友達と2人で訪れた。下町の空の名物は1皿99円の餃子。選択肢は30個or60個だった。2人は己が空腹のポテンシャルを信じ、2人で60個の餃子とチャーハン1つずつを注文した。
程なくして60個の餃子が運ばれてきて、仕上げの火が放たれた。目の前で燃え盛る火炎を合図に餃子30個との戦いの火蓋が切って落とされた。まず最初の餃子を口に運ぶ。空腹もあり非常に美味しく感じた。この調子なら30個はペロリと食べれるだろう。寧ろ何個か餃子を追加する必要に迫られる可能性すらある。1つ目の餃子を平らげながら、追加の餃子に思いを馳せる余裕すらあった。
私は10個目の餃子を平らげた所で箸を置いて深呼吸をした。案の定、割とお腹一杯だ。追加の餃子について思案していた1個目の餃子を食べていた頃の自分を恥じた。結局、3つ程友達にあげて、最後は白目を剥きながら何とか2人で60個完食した。
しかし、事件はここからだった。家に着くと免許証やクレジットカードが入ったカードケースが無いことに気づいた。自分にとって重要なカードが殆ど入っているので家中ありとあらゆる場所を探した。藁にもすがる思いで下町の空に電話をしてみた。私は憔悴し切った声で「カードケースの忘れ物はないですか？」と聞いた。電波が悪くて聞き取りづらいのか「ワンピースですか？」と聞き返された。そんなわけ無いだろう。餃子に火が放たれてテンション上がってワンピースを脱いでしまった客が過去にいたのだろうか？そんな原住民のお祭りみたいな画を思い浮かべて笑えてきた。
ただカードケースが私にとっての一つなぎの大秘宝であることを踏まえればある意味ワンピースなのかもしれないと思った。今思えば「そうです。ワンピースです。」と力強く回答する選択肢も一興だったなと思った。(カードケースは下町の空で無事見つかりました。)
