２月中旬、厳寒の津軽を訪れた。文豪“太宰治”の故郷を辿る旅である。“津軽鉄道”への乗り換え駅“五所川原”に降り立つと、列車の出発までかなりの時間がある。駅前のレストランで、早めのLunchを済ませることにした。土産物店を兼ねた店内のテーブル席には、先客が数組ある。
太宰が好んだという“若生おにぎり”に“津鉄汁”の付いた「若生おにぎりセット」1,100円をオーダーすると、10分ほどで着盆した。“はしぃれメロス”とデザインされた箸袋は、太宰ファンの心を揺さぶる。津軽鉄道沿線で育てられた地鶏“青森シャモロック”の出汁でいただく“津鉄汁”には、県産の根菜や舞茸がごろごろ入っている。さらに大きな“長芋すいとん”のもちもちした食感も楽しめ、まさに五臓六腑に染み渡る絶妙な味わいである。
一方の“若生おにぎり”とは、一年ものの薄い昆布で包んだ津軽風おにぎりである。昆布の風味が抜群で、プツッと噛み切る歯応えがたまらない。昆布についた自然の塩味も、素朴さゆえの奥深さを感じる。“青森シャモロックの出汁巻き卵”は濃厚な味で、付け合わせの“蕗の佃煮”との相性が良好である。小鉢の“ひじきの煮物”も、優しい味わいである。
手軽にいただける津軽の郷土料理、乗り換えの合間にぜひ味わいたい。
