「呉朝明」という名なので、てっきり中国人シェフのいる本格中華の店かと思っていたら、読み方は「ごちょうめ」。
かつて渡辺通5丁目に店があったので付けた名前と聞いて膝カックンです。
しかしそもそも福岡には街中華がない。
東京なら駅前や銭湯の横に必ずあって、肉野菜炒め定食やレバニラ炒め定食、それに天津丼が食べられる庶民の憩いの場となっているというのに。
実は焼き餃子を始め、街中華メニューの多くは終戦後、大陸から引き揚げてきた人々が思い出の味を再現したもの。限られた材料と日本人の好みに合わせて独自の発達を遂げた「ニッポンの中華」の店が「街中華」なのです。
しかし、福岡においては中華っぽい店と言えば豚骨ラーメンかひとくち餃子の専門店ばかり。ほぼ街中華ながら高級を装っていた天神の「平和楼」が廃業し、天神コアの裏にあった「新生飯店」も再開発で閉店したあと、いよいよ街中華がなくなってしまいました。
で、この「ごちょうめ」もまた街中華ではなく中華居酒屋。「ゆでワンタン」「焼ワンタン」とラーメンが売りだそう。
ワンタンは具の詰まったもので、ゆでたものは皮がぷるんっとして美味。
一方で「焼き」は実際は揚げたものでちょっとガチガチで「ゆで」に劣ります。
ラーメンは、とんこつベースではありますが醤油が多く、その分臭みやぬらぬら感が感じられずマイルド。これはこれでおいしい。
また、丼を覆い尽くすような大きなチャーシューが2枚も乗っていてこれで税込で605円はありえない安さです。
そのほか、名物という黒チャーハンも肉味噌が散りばめられて香ばしくておいしい。
「塩ホルモン」はどんな物が出てくるかと思っていたら鉄板の上でキャベツとともにホルモンが焼かれたいわゆる“南福岡のソウルフード”そのものでした。この、料理と呼べるか微妙な一品を、最近の福岡人はよっぽど好きなようです。
福岡の中心部・天神から北に10分ほど。かつて浪人生たちで賑わった親不孝通りの端っこ。街中華への渇望は抑えられませんが、ユニークなおいしさとその安さで、つい通いたくなる店のひとつです。
