春夏秋、冬には来ないが南会津や尾瀬などへ行く際は休憩ぎてら必ず立ち寄る「道の駅しもごう」。レストランは「EMATTO（エマット）」という洒落た名前。レストランの開店が10:30～ということでいつも時間が合わずテイクアウトの店を利用してます。ソフトクリームや軽食。イベントでは地元の名物「しんごろう」は売ってればぜひオススメしたい一品。地元の野菜などを販売してるコーナーや工芸品などの店もありそれなりに楽しめます。ここは高地に在り、四季折々の景色もドライブで疲れた身体を癒してくれます。

白河市西郷から会津方面の紅葉も見頃になったという新聞記事を読みドライブへ行ってみた。西郷の奥甲子温泉の大黒屋付近の紅葉は見事な絶景となっていた。トンネルを抜け、道の駅「しもごう」でトイレ休憩。以前は道路から少し入った場所だったが、道路が拡張されて利用し易くなりました。
物産所を覗き、ムカゴ（零余子）を購入。レストランなどはオープン前だったが、外で玉コンニャクを購入してみた。肌寒くなってきたので温かい玉コンニャクはホント芯から温まる。さて、奥会津に向かおう。
