■鶏飯¥1,100（税込）
昭和21年創業、奄美大島の郷土料理「鶏飯」の専門店『みなとや』。奄美大島界隈では食べログで1位にランクイン。表にはどでかい鶏の像と“元祖鶏飯”の文字。奄美の北部に位置し、奄美空港からは車で10分。今回宿泊した『伝泊』からは車で2分ということで訪問。
当然ながら人気店なので、記帳制を導入している。だいたい10分ごとに枠が設けられ、記帳しその時間に戻り、案内されるまで入り口で待つという仕組み。食事数が決まっているため、材料がなくなり次第、受付は終了となるので注意が必要だ。また、店内の撮影はNGなど、人気店がゆえ、明確なルールが設けられている。
鶏飯とは、約400年前、薩摩の役人をもてなすために考え出されたのが起源だそうで、この店の初代・岩城キネ氏が、炊き込みご飯のようだった鶏飯をアレンジし、現在のご飯に具材をのせて鶏スープをかけて食べるスタイルを作り上げたそうな。
指定の時間に戻り、入り口付近で待っていると席へ案内される。テーブルにはすでに鶏飯のセットが完了済み。食べ方指南の紙を見ながら、自分好みに鶏飯を仕上げていく。
四角いお櫃に入ったごはんをよそい、鶏肉・錦糸卵・干し椎茸・葱・海苔・沢庵・タンカンパウダーの具材を載せ、スープをかける。町内産の雌鶏を丸ごと煮込んだという黄金色のスープは濃厚で、鶏の旨みたっぷりだ。このスープを味わうような鶏茶漬けといった具合。非常に素朴な味わい。この料理では肝心であろう白ごはんの状態が、イマイチなのが残念すぎる。
奄美の鶏飯を語る上では外せない当店。空港からのアクセスもいいので、タイミングが合った際にどうぞ。
