10月上旬の某週末、横浜関内のパブは湧いている。プロ野球のクライマックスシリーズ。ベイスターズが優勢に進めている。巨人の打者が凡退するたびに拍手喝采が沸き起こる。地元愛が強いファンで満席のパブ。
以前、NYで暮らしていた頃。パブ（バー）は殆どがスポーツバー。テレビではヤンキース、ニックス（NBA）、ジャイアンツ（NFL）などが中継される。地元チームが得点するたびに。大騒ぎとなり客は異常に興奮する。
アイルランド本国のパブはブリティッシュパブよりもフレンドリー。旅行者には気軽に接してくる。ブリティッシュパブのような階級意識がないのだ。最近、アイリッシュパブが増えている日本では。やはりスポーツバーのような雰囲気が。
フレンドリーな雰囲気が日本人に合うのだろうか。そしてギネス。ケルト人はドイツから
醸造技術を持ってアイルランドに移住したそうだ。だからギネスと言えばアイルランドを代表するビール。そして料理は魚介が多く、代表がフィッシュ＆チップス。
私は、1人だけの0次会で入店。テレビの見られない席を発見。1人でギネスを飲みながらフィッシュ＆チップスを。最近は殆ど野球を見ない。見るのはBSのNFLくらい。なんと言ってもアメリカンフットボールが最高だ。
