戸塚小学校正門の南側
平日13時過ぎの訪問。入口で声をかけ店内を見渡し、入口付近席とはセパレートされた奥の4人掛けのテーブル席に着き、一部写真入りのメニュー表をチラ見のうえ、目星を付けた天ぷらせいろそば 1,000円に決め、表情の明るくない若い姉さんへオーダー。
なおじそば遍歴のなか、スケルトン天井の蕎麦屋は経験があったかと思いを巡らせたり、大箱で築浅で役所にも近いこの1階店舗の賃料を推測したりすること、およそ5分で配膳されました。
・天ぷらせいろそば
フードコートで使われるようなチープな樹脂製の盆ので配膳あることに加え、猪口が黒色で冷涼感や高級感はなくつゆ自体を嗜むことが出来ないし、天つゆは付くものの、つゆ徳利を使うことの無い食べさせ方に、店の「そば」に対する考え方を推し量る。
机上の箱から取り出した洒落っ気ない袋に入る箸を取り出して割り、一啜り分のそばを手繰ってつゆにチョッとだけ漬け、豪快に音をたてて啜れば訪れる小幸せ。
手打ちであろうそばは、見た目よりもシットリ&シルキーな食感であり、そばを啜る楽しみを十分に叶えてくれるお品。
つゆに拘りは感じられないものの、ちゃんとした美味いそばであろうか。
海老、ナス、カボチャ他で構成された天ぷらは、オーダー毎調理に加え、ハロゲンライトと天粉により色合いは眩いものの、油の匂い強いのがかなり残念。サイズはけち臭くない。
なお、そば湯は配膳時に提供されるうえに少量のため、冷えてしまい使い道がありませんでした。
この内容で1,000円。手打ち天せいろがこの価格ならば決して高くはないけれど、本来の蕎麦処でしか感じることのできない、特有の趣と雰囲気がここにはない。
