On the way back from Ton-Rin, my wife, who loves Japanese Confectionery, sniffed around and decided to buy some kashiwamochi, which looked delicious, so we visited for the first time. It's May now. The carp streamers on display in the store are lively, as it's the Boys' Festival. In my household, we all have different preferences for bean paste. We enjoy it at home with a combination of miso bean paste, smooth bean paste, and crushed bean paste. I peeled back the oak leaf and put the mochi in my mouth. It took two bites. It's mochi, so it's natural, but it's chewy and plump. It's delicious. Apparently, since the oak tree keeps its old leaves until new buds appear, people began eating rice cakes wrapped in oak leaves on Boys' Day as a prayer for the prosperity of their descendants. My daughter and son were munching away, whether they knew about it or not... Either way, we found a delicious Japanese Confectionery shop. Thank you for the treat.
