平日の夕刻、“中央林間東急スクエア”３階のカフェを利用した。このチェーン店はロードサイドでよく目にするが、ここは市立図書館の中。なんと館内の本を店内に持ち込んで読むことができ、さらに店内にはイメージに合った選書が並べられている。“作家の机”・“コーヒーシェルフ”・“アカデミックデスク”・“雑誌と絵本の本棚”・“アートシェルフ”と、レイアウトが工夫された席も楽しい。
店内は女性グループや受験生で、半数の席が埋まっている。「彦星ブレンド」450円をオーダーすると、ハンドドリップで丁寧に淹れられて着皿した。挽きたて・淹れたての一杯からは、芳醇な香りが立ち昇る。“グァテマラ”・“コロンビア”・“ブラジル”のブレンドは、重厚な味わいである。ほどよい苦味でほのかに甘味も感じられ、疲れたアタマを徐々に覚醒してくれる。女性客のおしゃべりや幼児の声が少々気になったが、たくさんの本に囲まれていただくコーヒーは一味違った味わいであった。
