Heading towards Minamiashigara from the Kaiseicho exit of the Tomei Expressway "Oi Matsuda Interchange", turn left at the "Ashigara Ohashi Higashi" intersection and it's on the left side. It's on the first floor on the left side of the building, so be careful as it's easy to miss if your car is parked in the private parking lot in front of you! However, you should be able to notice it by the flag fluttering on the fence in front of the store. There are counter seats on the left side of the store. The right side is a spacious floor without pillars, and you have to take off your shoes before entering. There are cushions on the floor so you can put your feet up, and the tables are a little long and can seat 2 to 4 people. The tables can be moved, so it seems to be a convenient design that can be used widely by a small number of people or crowded with a large number of people. As you can see from the design, it is mainly an Izakaya (Japanese-style bar), but I heard that they also serve set meals, so I chose this restaurant as a place to have dinner with my children. It was almost 8 p.m., so I inquired and was told that they were open until 9 p.m., so I was able to visit with peace of mind. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was only one other group at the counter, so I went to a seat on the floor. As rumored, the menu was not only a variety of dishes typical of Izakaya (Japanese-style bar), but also a set meal with rice, miso soup, salad, and Sweets (roll cake) was available, so we chose from that, as well as one dish that was not on the set menu. "Mixed Grill 1,430 yen" Hamburg, sausage, and two pieces of fried chicken, a lot of food! The whole thing was covered in a soy sauce-based sauce with plenty of fried onions that seemed to be homemade, and this sauce went well with every dish. A generous amount of shredded cabbage is served on top of the tartar sauce, which you can add as much as you like. Both set meals come with a salad of fresh vegetables such as lettuce, shredded cabbage, and cherry tomatoes, miso soup with grated kelp, rice that's so soft you'll wonder if they made a mistake, and even a roll cake as Sweets. The egg fried rice (760 yen) that I ordered as a single item is served on an oval iron plate and is a little on the small side. I think they've thought out the portions so that even someone eating alone can have a variety, rather than just sharing (^^; The flavor, which seems to be based on Japanese cuisine with bonito flakes, is low in salt and, even for me who normally prefers lighter flavors, it seemed quite mildly seasoned. "Chicken fillet with cheese and shiso leaves 640 yen" Chicken fillet is baked with cheese and topped with plenty of chopped shiso leaves. This dish is also only seasoned by the ingredients, so it seems like you are supposed to add soy sauce or other flavors to your taste. Having ordered two set meals and two a la carte dishes, the set meal seems more filling and well seasoned, making it better value for money, but perhaps the a la carte dishes are the opposite?? The owner and staff are polite and friendly, and there is an extensive alcohol menu, so it seems like it would be a great Izakaya (Japanese-style bar) to relax, but I would recommend ordering the set meal. I'm not sure if the rice was soft just on this day or always...lol
