We enjoyed Sushi, soba, and Tempura for lunch (two of us shared it) On the day we arrived in Kumamoto, when we tried to have lunch, the restaurant we were looking for was closed, so we hurriedly researched and went to the restaurant Uoyoshi Founder. This store has been around for over 100 years. It was moved to its current location and opened in 2018. Is this a sign from the time it was founded? The lunch-only menu looks like this: We ordered two types: Soba Gozen (1,980 yen) and Special Nigiri (3,300 yen). The menu states that cash only is accepted at lunchtime, but on the day we visited on August 9th, you could also pay with PayPay. *You might want to ask before you go. Soba Gozen Soba + Tempura + Sushi + Dessert included 1980 yen The soba noodles are made fresh every day. Beautiful Nihachi Soba. The soba had a nice aroma and a smooth texture. A single soba dish costs 880 yen, which is a very reasonable price. The soba noodles came out first, followed by the freshly fried Tempura. The way the batter sticks is a professional skill. Special Nigiri 3,300 yen We shared eight pieces of nigiri Sushi, thin rolls, red soup stock, and dessert. Tuna Big Toro Anyway, it's thick. I devoured it in no time. It melts in your mouth and the conger eel is so plump. The tamagoyaki Sushi roll in the soba set was not too sweet, but was a thick roll that allowed you to feel the deliciousness of the rice. Nameko Miso Soup The aroma of the finely chopped green onions, the flavor of the nameko mushrooms, the miso, and the soup stock were a perfect match. For dessert, both of us came with watermelon. Watermelons in Kumamoto are so delicious! While staying in Kumamoto, it's always nice to be served watermelon after a meal. Both sea food and mountain food are delicious in Kumamoto, and I've been there many times since my days in Fukuoka, so I always come across new restaurants and flavors. Although the price for lunch may seem a bit rich, I felt that Sushi toppings, ingredients, and cooking methods were very good, and that it was a place where people of all ages could enjoy their meals with peace of mind. Even on weekday afternoons, customers continued to come after we entered the store. There seemed to be some local regulars as well.
