However, since I was of a generation that didn't have Cafeterias cars on the Shinkansen anymore, the title is just an image, but I knew that there were Cafeterias cars, like in the train guides I saw when I was a child. So this is the first time I've actually eaten it. That's why I came here to confirm the retro image of curry in a Cafeterias car. Of course, I ordered the "Shinkansen Cafeterias Car Curry" for 890 yen. I bought a ticket for curry and a large serving (110 yen) from the ticket machine, and it was handed over at the counter, and it was served to me with a plate full of rice and an Aladdin cup filled with curry roux. I immediately poured it over the rice. The curry roux is a classic, mild roux. It's not like the so-called spice curry that is popular these days, where the flavor of the spices stands out, but it's a type that is made by adding spices to flour and kneading it to suit the Japanese dining table. So it's basically not spicy. Looking around the store, I saw that they also offer a spicy version, so I asked the staff and they gave me some spicy spices, which I will knead into the curry roux. This brought out the edge of the spices and made it a little sharper. It was beef curry, and the meat was probably shank. It was well-cooked and the meat was very tender. Even with the large portion, the amount of rice was only about 300g, but it was nice to be able to experience the curry that was once served in the Cafeterias cars of the Shinkansen.
