★☆Enjoy one of the few South Indian Cuisine in Kawaramachi Sanjo, Kyoto★☆
Head north from Kawaramachi Sanjo in Kyoto. Enjoy the flavors of their homeland, full of coconut palms, lovingly prepared by chefs from South India in Kerala, where they have been serving for 25 years |
This is an Indian Cuisine located on Kawaramachi Street in Kyoto. It is located between Sanjo and Oike, on the second floor of a building next to the general store ANGER. I have known about this restaurant since I was a student in Kyoto, but this was my first visit. I went there around 13:00 on a holiday, and there was someone waiting! However, since they were a group, the staff said, "If you are alone, they might let you in." When I called out to the staff as instructed, a table for two people was available, so they let me in first. They were kind... The restaurant only has table seats and is not that large. However, it is a long-established restaurant, so you can feel at ease. It is almost full, there are many groups, and there are many different nationalities. English is also spoken. It is certainly easy to take religious considerations into account with Indian Cuisine. Now, there are mainly four types of lunch. Standard, vegetarian, vada (a South Indian tofu pulp Donuts-like thing), and special lunch. I ordered the wada lunch. [b:■ Wada Lunch (¥1500)] Two daily vegetable curries, Bubble tea vada (Indian-style Donuts), udat dal vada, coconut chutney, sambar, rice, salad, fruit yogurt, specialty tomato soup or chai. I chose tomato soup and asked for chai for an additional ¥250. The daily vegetable curry on this day was a vegetable curry with yam curry and potatoes. First, a hot tomato soup is served. The aroma of spices drifts. The soup is flavored with cloves and cardamom. It's like chai tea turned into tomato soup. I wonder if it contains sugar? It's a little sweet. The thali is served around the time you finish the soup. The vadas are freshly fried. Small plates and knives are also provided, so you can cut them into bite-sized pieces with the knife and eat them with the curry when they cool enough to hold in your hand. The salad is mainly onion and the dressing is Japanese style. It's a bit disappointing that the onions were spicy. The curry was especially delicious. The sambar was also delicious! I didn't like the coconut chutney. The yogurt was also sweet with fruit. It came with rice so I was full! I warmed up with a cup of chai after the meal. I only had a small breakfast that day so I was able to finish it all, but it was better to come with an empty stomach because it was so filling. I'm interested in other sets, so I'd like to return soon.
