京都の御所南、夷川通りと寺町通りの交差点のそばにある京料理屋「田川」を訪れる。8席ぐらいのカウンターだけのお店である。スタートは18時。このような高級な京料理屋に訪れたのは初めてなので、ただ出てきたものを有り難くいただいていただけであったが、特に印象に残ったのは松茸と牛肉のすき焼き風味の春巻きと、刺身的な味わいが残ったハモ料理であった。どちらも生まれて初めて食べる風味であり、大いに感銘を受けた。お酒は日本酒にしたが、日本酒はそれほど特別なものを置いているといった印象は受けなかったが、料理との相性は抜群であった。何より驚いたのは最後に出てきたお米である。土鍋で焚いたご飯は、とりご飯、とうもころしご飯と普通の白米であったが、もう満腹であるにも関わらず止まらない美味しさである。京都に来て、全般的にご飯を美味しく炊かないよな、と思っていたが、当たり前であるがしっかりと美味しいお米を出すところは出しているのだな、ということを改めて知る。あと、京都の人気店はつっけんどんなところが多い印象を持っていたが、ここの料理人は朴訥で誠実なお人柄が伺えるような丁寧なサービスであった。お値段は一人当たり2万5千円であったが、その価値は十二分にある。また、機会があれば再訪したいものである。
