にんにくや花椒など、刺激の強い香辛料の使用を控え、あっさりとやさしい味が特徴の"京中華"を味わってきた。
訪れたのは、祇園白川の交差点に位置する「広東御料理 竹香」。祇園の一等地に店を構えながらも、リーズナブルな価格で美味しい料理を提供してくれる。
注文した料理は、すぶた、えびかやく巻き揚げ（春巻）、むしどり、生ビール（小）の4品。料理はどれもシンプルで、あっさりとした味わい。特にすぶたは絶品であり、とろりと艶めくべっこう色の甘酢に、具は豚肉とカリフラワー、パイナップルのみというシンプルさ。この甘酢は、まろやかで透明感があり、やや甘めでありながらも後を引く、奥行きのある味わいが特徴的だった。
高級な中国料理店や町中華とは異なる京都独特の中華の味は、訪れる者をきっと虜にすることだろう。
