It's reasonable
We have counter seats, table seats, of course, but we also have a tatami room that can accommodate up to 20 people for banquets, and a private room with a sunken kotatsu table that can seat 6 people, |
The other day, I went to Osaka and Kyoto. I stayed at a hotel in Higashiyama, Kyoto, and checked in the evening. I thought I'd have dinner somewhere close to the hotel, so I made a list of various options beforehand. So, when I left the hotel in the evening and went to my first choice restaurant, I was lucky to find a counter seat available, and they showed me there right away. That restaurant was "Kyoto Izakaya (Japanese-style bar) Sherry." It opened in 2010, and is located along National Route 1 and Gojo Street, close to Keihan Kiyomizu-Gojo Station. I sat at the counter with my 6th grade daughter who was accompanying me. First, I toasted with beer and my daughter with lemon squash. The beer mug was frozen and ice cold. Looking at the menu, as expected of a "Kyoto Izakaya (Japanese-style bar)," there was a wide lineup of Kyoto cuisine. Among them, the lineup of obanzai, which is the quintessential Kyoto dish, was naturally eye-catching. In that case, I wanted to eat the assorted obanzai dishes, and I heard that they had them, so I wanted to try them! And I heard that they had Tempura (748 yen, tax included), so I wanted to try that too! My daughter wanted to eat her favorite food, so I decided to order that as well. And so, the assorted obanzai dishes in the photo and the five kinds of sausages that my daughter ordered were brought out at the same time. The lineup for the assorted obanzai dishes that day was walnuts, boiled eggplant, boiled ginger, boiled yuba, and boiled milt. All of them were lightly seasoned Simmered dish with a dashi flavor as the main flavor. I guess it's because I've gotten a certain age that I've started to find these dishes really delicious. I recommended the boiled yuba to my daughter. My daughter had never eaten yuba before, but she said it was delicious and ate it. I think it's a taste that everyone will like. Since obanzai dishes were being served, I ordered sake after beer. I decided to try Matsumoto Junmaishu, a local Kyoto sake made in Fushimi. It was very smooth on the palate, but had a sharp umami flavor at the back of the tongue. It was so good that I ended up ordering a second bottle. (^^; They also brought out yuba Tempura, so I tried that. The yuba had just the right amount of bite in a crispy batter. I ate it with salt, and it was just as good as I expected. I tried a variety of other dishes, and for the final dish, I tried the scorched rice and fried vegetables in egg sauce (693 yen including tax). It had a gentle flavor that really warmed my heart. When you think of Kyoto cuisine, you imagine a gentle flavor that makes the most of the ingredients' flavor and is flavored with dashi, and the dishes I had this time did not disappoint. I was able to enjoy it with delicious sake, and I think it was a very satisfying time as a banquet on a trip.
