私は名古屋に住んでいるが、名古屋にはマリオットホテルとヒルトンホテルがあるが、他には外資系のまともなホテルは無い。以前はセンチュリーハイアットホテルがあったが、無くなってしまったし、キャッスルホテルもウエスティンのタグを外してしまったようだ。名古屋に来る観光客は中国人、韓国人を主とするアジア人が80%を占める。しかし、これらの観光客は名古屋にお金を落とす金額が低い上に国際化という観点からもバランスが悪い。まあ、他の地域のというか、アメリカ人やヨーロッパ人を呼び込むためには、まともなホテルが必要なのだが、マリオットホテルとヒルトンホテルは共に中級ホテルなので、一流の？外国人が宿泊する「高級ホテル」が無いのだ。
さて、パークハイアットは東京にもある。そちらはロストイントランスレーションの舞台になった程の一流ホテルだ。ハイアットはアンダーズブランドも展開しているが、ランクはこちらが上だ。京都では、ここ数年で、リッツ・カールトンやフォーシーズンズが出来たし、スターウッドはマリオットに入り、リッツカールトンはマリオットなので、後はコンラッドがこれば全部が揃うことになる。一つもない名古屋から見ると羨ましいが、まあ、仕方ない。
ここは車は入り口で預けるシステムだ。今回は緒方で昼御飯を食べた後、お茶に立ち寄っただけで、ロビーラウンジでシャンパンとアフタヌーンティーをいただいだ。グラスシャンパンはルイナールだった。アフタヌーンティーは甘いお菓子というよりは、シャンパンのアテになるオードブルのような雰囲気だ。まあ、サービスは最高だが、竹中工務店が造っている筈だが、積水ハウスが作ったリッツカールトン京都の方が内装のクオリティーが高いように感じた。なお、ここからは京都の風景を見ることは出来ないのが残念だ。
