ほどよい甘さの粒あんを餅で包み、長く伸ばして両面を軽く炙って作っている。もっちり感とほどよい甘さのあんがマッチする。
天文19年(1550)、戦国時代に創業。藤堂高虎も足軽の頃、美味しさと名前の縁起の良さから気に入って食べたそう。江戸時代の旧東海道沿いにお店を構えており、歌川広重が描いた東海道五十三次の四日市宿の浮世絵のデザインが説明の紙にも採用されている。
