締めのバリエーションは、世代によっても地域によっても異なるが、年齢を重ねるとともにシンプルなものを希求するのは普遍的価値ではなかろうか？
いつになくひと気のない国分町の路地裏の小路にひっそりと店名の灯が宿っていた。
山形十割そばというだけで惹かれるのに、なぜ今まで知り得なかったのだろう、と幾許かの自己嫌悪とともに期待感が膨れ上がる。
エレベーターを降りて活気溢れる声が店の前まで響いて来る。
かろうじて席があった。
人気店ゆえか、締めの客もいれば宴会の客も混じっているようである。
ともあれ、「ざるそば」しか眼中になかった。
カウンターに佇立する日本酒と目が合う。
無視するわけにはいかない。
その喉越しは絶妙な辛さで、そばとの相性が良好そうだ。
やがて訪れたそばは、上品な佇まいで見た目では十割には見えない。
しかし、1本すすってみると、そばの豊かな風味と締まった歯応えが一気に食欲を掻き立てる。
そうして日本酒を飲み、そばをすする。
『今宵は東北でしか味わえない贅沢を、ほんのひと時味わおうではないか』
そう思うも束の間、酒もそばも交わりながら呆気なく無くなってゆくのだった…
