鮎川は捕鯨で栄えいた街。禁漁から調査捕鯨を経てやっと商業捕鯨が出来るようになった。
今回訪れた黄金寿司さんは『ホエールタウンおしか』の中に入っています。『ホエールタウンおしか』は震災復興施設でもあり、「観光物産交流施設 Cottu (こっつ）」、「牡鹿
半島ビジターセンター」「おしかホエールランド」の3つが複合した施設。
また、ホエールタウンおしかの前に広がる「捕鯨壯前広場」には、捕鯨船「第16利丸」が設置してあり無料で見学できます。第16利丸 は1958年建造、南極海などで約30年操業、1990年にホエールタウンおしかの展示船となったそう。
さて、鯨のユッケ丼はというと、この日はミンク鯨が網にかかったそうで、新鮮な鯨肉が頂けました。
鯨の赤身と白身お刺身に、さえずり。特製だしをかけていただきます。美味しくって鯨のお寿司も追加。こんな美味しい鯨を頂けるのはやっぱり鮎川ならでは。遠くてもまた来て食べたい逸品に出会いました！
