シルバーウィークに全く遠出をしなかった我が家。金曜の仕事が早く片付いたので、土曜の朝早起きして軽井沢までひとっ走り。小雨混じりの関越道と上信越道をひた走り、朝７時過ぎに軽井沢駅前に到着。ヨメのリクエストで軽井沢プリンスホテルのイースト（旧･東館）の朝食ビュッフェを利用することにした。軽井沢までやって来て朝からコンビニご飯では侘しい。多少値は張るけれど、たまには贅沢してもいいか……
ということで、朝７時過ぎの軽井沢プリンスイースト『メインダイニングルーム』は、宿泊客がパラパラとやって来るが、まだ空いていた。ビュッフェ台を見てみると、地元信州産のお米や野菜、フルーツがてんこ盛り。なかなか立派な品揃えである。十六穀米の栗ご飯や温野菜、野菜のディップソースには地元の味噌を使った様々なバリエーションが並んでいる。パンはホテルメイドで、ヴィエノワズリー系が充実している。洋食メニューも隙の無いラインナップで、さすがプリンスホテルといった印象だ。
和食系から食べてみる。お米はやや固めの炊き上がりで、しっかりした食感が心地よい。米そのものの旨みもきちんとあり、食が進む。ご飯のお伴にいろいろな味噌が用意されており、山椒味噌や柚子味噌、黒豆味噌など、どれもご飯にベストマッチ。もう最高である。サラダや温野菜のドレッシングには信州産巨峰を皮ごとすり下ろしたホテルオリジナルもあって、その斬新な味わいに驚かされる。
洋食メニューもなかなか質が高い。特にホテルメイドのヴィエノワズリーはサクサクしっとりの食感が素晴らしい。シナモンの効いたレーズンアップルパイや、ピーカンナッツのパイ、クロワッサン等、どれもパン専門店に引けをとらない味わいだ。厚切りのベーコンやハーブの効いたソーセージも旨み十分。朝から思いきり食べてしまった。
８時過ぎまで約１時間ゆっくりしてから店を出ると、エントランスには10人を越える長い列が出来ていた。皆さん宿泊客の様だが、やはりこちらの朝食ビュッフェは人気らしい。早めにお邪魔して正解だった。優雅で上質な朝食ビュッフェ。朝の軽井沢でマッタリ食事する贅沢。たまにはこんな経験も良いものである。
