直江津駅近くに出張の際に訪問。当初は別の店に入るつもりだったのですが、店の前まで行ったら休業中。どうしようかと思っていると、その並びに赤い文字の暖簾が見え、どうやら「営業中」の様子。おそるおそるアルミサッシの引き戸を開けると、その奥が中華料理店らしい。狭い廊下を進んで入店しました。高田の町屋もそうでしたが、直江津のこの辺りの商店も間口が狭く奥行きが長い「うなぎの寝床」なんですね。
店内はテーブル席と小上がりがあり、小上がりには母子づれが料理を待っていました。壁に貼られたメニューを見て、チャーハンセット（税込650円）を選択。店奥の厨房のカウンター越しに注文しました。
料理を待つうちにお客さんが増えてきましたが、皆さん全員チャーハンセット。人気メニューなんですね。そうこうするうちに中華鍋で炒める音が聞こえ、これは期待できそうです。
運ばれてきたお盆の上にはラーメンとチャーハンがそれぞれ自己主張して、食欲をそそります。ラーメンのスープは、醤油感たっぷりで（煮干かな？）微かに苦みを感じます。背油のない背油ラーメンのスープといった感じ。チャーシューが赤身とバラと2種類乗っていました。
チャーハンは、レンゲですくって口に入れるとほろほろと崩れ、熟練の旨さ。人気商品の理由がわかりました。
