赤磐市消防本部近くにある「めん市場」さんは讃岐うどんのような手打ち麺ではなく、手延べ麺を提供しておられます。以前、訪問した時にはかけうどんを注文しましたが、このうどんはざるうどんで一度食べてみたいと常々、思っていました。
訪問は14時を過ぎていましたが、店内は座敷とテーブル席があり、半分程の席が埋まっていました。注文したのはざるうどん(税込み470円)と春菊と蓮根の天ぷら(合計150円)で、札を渡され10分待ちだと伝えられました。
ざるうどんを注文したのは正解でした。お餅のようなツルツルとしたコシで喉越しが素晴らしく、ざるうどんにとてもマッチしていました。また、バチがアクセントを与え、讃岐うどんとはまた、違った味わいがありました。つゆも鰹出汁の旨味がよく出ており、適度の甘辛さでした。天ぷらはさすがに揚げられてから時間は立っていましたが、それなりに美味しくいただけました。
