大阪でチャイを広めた老舗です。
創業者やスタッフがインドに渡って仕入れてきたこだわりのチャイは、香辛料と紅茶葉のブレンドバランスが絶妙で、今もその味が受け継がれているようです。
ぼくがチャイを知ったのは「深夜特急」という小説からだから、それよりずっと前のことですね。
店舗は地下1階。地上から入口までのエントランスがすごくいい。
ジャグルのような木々の間を抜けると、店内は広々としていて、インド、スリランカ、バリ島、アジアン雑貨が並んでいて、香が漂い、まるで東南アジアのリゾート気分になります。
木漏れ日のやさしさを受けながらランチをいただきました。
・2種プレートカレー 1,280円
・チャイ ランチセット＋ 120円
2種のカレーは、レンズ豆とパクチーチキンを選びました。
スリランカカレーだと教えてもらいましたが、まさしく現地の味でしょうね。
日本のカレーは甘さや日本風旨さがありますが、こちらは数種類のスパイスをバランスよく活かした美味しさです。
ターメリックライスと豆のからみ、パクチーの風味、本格的なアジアンカレーです。
チャイこそイチオシの売り物ですが、こちらはぼくが海外で味わったチャイには至らない。まあ現地で飲むと、そこの風景も味に混じりますから仕方ないですね。
それに120円ブラスのチャイはコップからして貧相だね、現地感はあるけど、価格は日本レベルだからな。
チャイだけでも数種類のメニューがありますから、自分好みの味に出会えるかも。
「50周年記念 焼きマシュマロチャイ」もありましたよ。
店内の雑貨販売品を見るだけでも、ちょっとした旅行気分になります。
愛犬家に嬉しい知らせは、リードがあればペット同伴も可能のようです。
