A Nepalese curry restaurant with a reputation for its casual taste, perfect for Sunday brunch. I visited this restaurant for an event meeting in the art area of Nakazakicho. I was greeted by the lovely smiles of the local staff and entered the bright orange interior. There are various sets on the menu, so you can enjoy it. When I asked the staff which was the most popular, they said, "The B set (910 yen) is the most popular at our restaurant." There are two types of curry to choose from, so I ordered chicken and keema curry. You can choose the spiciness from 1 (mild) to 5 (very spicy). I had heard that it was quite spicy, so I chose 2. I'm also looking forward to the all-you-can-eat naan baked in a tandoor oven. I'm also happy that the plate comes with a bite of tandoori chicken and Japanese rice. I dipped a large naan into the chicken curry and took a bite. It wasn't spicy...I was a little relieved, but I should have chosen 3. Nepalese curry doesn't contain much chili pepper, so the taste was focused on mild umami. The red hot chili pepper base is mixed with coriander, garam masala, ginger, cumin and turmeric to give it the curry-like colour. Beef and pork are taboo in Nepal, so the minced meat in the keema curry had no mutton smell and tasted more like minced chicken. Curry is known as edible herbal medicine, and it warms you from the inside out, like a gentle bath. After the meal, I cooled off with a soy milk lassi. I felt the cool mountain air blowing across my forehead when I travelled to the hanging gardens of Machu Picchu in Nepal, and I hope to meet the cheerful, friendly, smiling people again.
