私が初めて「ラ・ヴォーリア・マッタ」と出会ったのは、30年近く前の東京・荻窪だった。
同僚から「パスタとピザの旨い店があるから行こう」と誘われてわざわざ出かけて行った。
この店はすでに数々の賞を受賞しているようでマスコミでも度々紹介されていた。
そんなこともあって、我々は予約していったからよかったものの店の前には行列だった。
当時珍しい生地の薄い「クリスピータイプ」のピザと茹で上げパスタはとても美味しかった。
そして、埼玉に住み始めたある日、あの「ラ・ヴォーリア・マッタ」が大宮駅のルミネにもあると聞いて早速訪ねてみた。
現在の店舗より解放感のある店はやはり行列必至。
私たちは比較的予約の取りやすい夜に利用することが多かった。
正直言って当時のルミネの飲食店はどこもイマイチという評判だった。
でもこの店だけは多少時間を外してもいつも混み合っていた。
ここでいつも思うことは、パスタの味付けがとても安定していること。
その神髄は「ペペロンチーニ」とか「ペスカトーレ・ブラン」といった塩味のものも、「ミートソース」とか「ペスカトーレ・ロッソ」のようなトマト系のものも、どちらも薄味ながら深いコクと風味を醸し出していた。
またこの店はこれだけの実績を持ちながら値段も安い。
我が家では、子供たちの成長につれ、ライスコロッケやピザなどを絡めてお腹いっぱい食べてもひとり2,000円は超えることのないこの店に頻繁に通っていた。
埼玉にイタリアンの店が増えてきた今でも、私たちはピザを食べたければ浦和の「ピノキオ」かここ、パスタを食べたければ北与野の「フィーノ」かここというように使い分けている。
今回は午後からの都内での仕事の前にスタッフとともにここでランチを摂った。
ランチとしては遅めの時間にもかかわらず店内はほぼ満席。
私はオーダーしたのは「ペスカトーレ（塩味）」の大盛り（100円増しがありがたい）。
久々に訪れたが、やはり基本がしっかりしているという印象。
連れのミートソースもひと口食べたがやはり同じ。
余計なものが加えられておらず足りないものもない。
これが浮き沈みの激しい大宮で生き残ってきた理由なのかもしれない。
"狂った欲望”
この店名の意味とは裏腹であるこの愚直な実力派の名店は正直もう少し評価されてもよいと思う。
