~ Nanakarage Story ~ The family name "Nanakarage" is the family name of the head chef. "Karaage" means "to twist. To take. To tie up. To catch and tie up." In the Edo period, there was a village that Shimazu Nariakira, the lord of the Satsuma domain, used as a hunting ground. There were seven farmhouses in the village, and they took care of the lord's hunting. After the hunt, as a thank you, the lord would hang his prey, such as rabbits and birds, with their legs tied with rope under the eaves of the seven houses, and so the village came to be called Nanakarage. In the Meiji period, when all citizens began to have surnames, the seven farmhouses all took the name "Nanakarage." The descendants of the Nanakarage, complete strangers to the family, currently live in Kagoshima Prefecture and some in other prefectures. Yes, there was one here in Omiya!
