I don't go out of Tokyo much anymore, but this time I had to go to Urawa in Saitama for some urgent business. Thinking about it, I think I may have been to Urawa for the first time. I thought I'd just quickly get my errands done and head home, but if I get back now the restaurants will be closed. So I'll eat dinner in Urawa. I was just wandering around the station when I found this restaurant, "Carnitine-do." You can check the restaurant's location on Tabelog Speaking of carnitine, it's getting a lot of attention for its dieting properties. L-carnitine, which is abundant in lamb meat, is said to have fat burning effects. Yes, this restaurant with a strange name is a Genghis Khan (Mutton grilled on a hot plate) restaurant! I sat down and checked the menu. There is an all-you-can-eat Genghis Khan (Mutton grilled on a hot plate) menu, but due to time constraints, I decided to order a la carte instead of the all-you-can-eat option. "Three kinds of seasoned Genghis Khan (Mutton grilled on a hot plate) platter" 2,068 yen. The first thing I ordered was a platter of seasoned soy milk lamb, spicy lamb shoulder, and AUS-produced aged lamb belly salt. All were delicious! The aged lamb belly in particular is soft and flavorful due to the dry aging process. "Assorted grilled vegetables" 528 yen I don't usually order vegetables with regular Yakiniku (Grilled meat), but for some reason I always order them when I have Genghis Khan (Mutton grilled on a hot plate). I guess it's because lamb is healthy, so I'd like to add some vegetables to make it even healthier. "Lamb shoulder roast" 858 yen The most popular dish at the restaurant! This meat has a good balance of lean meat and fat. This is what lamb is all about! It has a delicious flavor and aroma that makes us very satisfied. The hot plate started to burn a little, so we asked the waiter to change it. The first change is free, but it costs money from the second time onwards, so it's best to plan your meat order accordingly. The seasoned meat we ordered first burns easily on the hot plate, so the first meat after the hot plate was changed was "Lamb tongue" 825 yen. There was a little skin left on it, which gave it a nice, raw texture lol. Before grilling, it was thinly sliced like the other meats, but when grilled, it puffed up and was even more raw lol. The texture was similar to Cow tongue, but the taste was definitely lamb! And here's what we ordered next! "Lamb Hamburg 150g" 1,408 yen Hamburg is made by hand using coarsely minced meat each time an order is placed, with no binders and only salt and spices, making it really meaty. Since you cook this yourself, the condition of the hot plate is important. We spread a generous amount of fat on a clean hot plate that isn't burnt, and cook it until it sizzles. This looks like it will take quite a while, so we order this in the meantime. "Awaji Island Curry" 748 yen This curry is made using onions from Awaji Island, and is characterized by its sweetness and subsequent spiciness. You often see this at lunchtime at curry Izakaya (Japanese-style bar). It's a simple plain curry topped with only fried onions. Here Hamburg steak is cooked, and since it's coarsely minced, it looks impressive. We eat it as is, without adding any sauce, and it's incredibly delicious! I guess the reason it's so delicious with just salt and spices is because it's 100% lamb, so of course that's how we eat it - we top Hamburg and the leftover lamb shoulder roast with Awaji Island curry! The curry was top-notch delicious with the addition of the umami of the lamb, and Genghis Khan (Mutton grilled on a hot plate) and curry made for a satisfying dinner. Thank you for the meal.
