毎年恒例「ミスド」のバレンタイン企画、今年はトシヨロイヅカとのコラボドーナツというわけでいそいそと買いに行くも売り切れ御免。もう完全にドーナツの口だったので、どこかないかと彷徨っていてふとここを思い出した。
もう飽和状態かと思われた浦和でも、ここ1〜2年で新たに開発された路地に立て続けにテナントが入って、ちょっとした新名所になっている。知らなければ行き止まりかと思ってしまうロケーション。
昼にふらっと通りかかると行列ができていてすぐにそれと分かる、てっぱくの名店「狼煙」の支店。隠れ家レストランとは言い得て妙な、池袋発祥カジュアルイタリアン「五感」。その2店に挟まれた格好になる。
ハワイのドーナツことマラサダを売りにしたカフェ。
どうせよくある雰囲気だけのハワイアンカフェなんでしょと思ったらそうでもなく、本場ハワイで半世紀に渡って愛されたベーカリーが原点とのこと。その本店が店を畳んだのを機に拠点を沖縄に移し、本州への足がかりとしたのがここ浦和だとかで。
ハワイというより西海岸を思わせるような洗練されたデザイン。一見サードウェーブっぽいけど、麦わら帽子のランプシェードがヌケ感を演出する辺りがやっぱりハワイ。これでハワイアンなムードBGMでも流していれば良かったんだけど、なぜか店内は静まり返っている。
複数あったフレーバーからマラサダドーナツのプレーンとオリジナルブレンドコーヒーをオーダー。
マラサダはオーダーが入ってから揚げている模様で、手にとるとほんのり温かい。カトラリーにあったナイフとフォークよりも、ここは手づかみでいきたかったので紙ナプキンでマラサダを包んでがぶり。
なんだか気合いの抜けた揚げパンのような食感のマラサダは、砂糖が大量にまぶされているので激甘かと思いきやそうでもない。むしろコーヒーに合うじゃん。
マラサダは以前から知ってはいたけど、それが本場ハワイのものと比べてどうかまでは分からなかった。恐らくここのマラサダは本場のを忠実に再現しているはずだとして、まあこんなもんかと。
ちなみに発祥はポルトガルなんだって。へえ。
雰囲気は嫌いじゃないし、ハワイ時間というわけでもないけど時間の流れがゆったり。平日のおやつタイムというのもあってか、客は自分ひとり。
テイクアウト用の小窓が開け放たれていて、寒いじゃないかと思いきや意外とそうでもない。やっぱりここは常夏のハワイなんだ。。。
パンケーキをはじめ、もち粉チキンやガーリックシュリンプもラインナップ。アサイーボウルなんかもあって、むしろ朝食に伺ったほうがよさそう。
