Cafeterias is located along National Route 8 and the old Nakasendo. Shiga has many places that are said to be important transportation hubs, such as Otsu, Maibara, and Nagahama, and this is also a place where people and goods have been coming and going for a long time since it is along National Route 8. I was interested in Cafeterias because it is run by a rice wholesale company, so I decided to visit it this time. It was just before noon, but about 80% of the customers were already there. It's cafeteria style, so you take the prepared side dishes yourself and then pay at the end. I think there are many people who order Tontekidon without paying attention to anything else, and many of them are repeat customers. The parking lot has space for regular cars and space for large vehicles such as trucks, and the drivers can relax and eat their meals here. This time, I was a little tired, so I had sweet and sour pork, grilled mentaiko, pork soup, and rice. The price was 950 yen, which was quite expensive, but the pork soup was delicious and had a lot of ingredients. What's interesting is that even though it's a cafeteria style, the staff members are responsible for preparing the table. Nowadays, it is common for people to prepare their own meals at food courts, but here it is the staff's job. Aichigawa-juku on Nakasendo is also nearby, so it might be a good idea to enjoy a meal while reminiscing about the past.
