マイル消費の旅初日の宿は松江ニューアーバンホテル別館。
別館の3Fには宍道湖を一望できる温泉大浴場があり、宍道湖の夜景、といっても小雨のぱらつく生憎の天候だったけれど、温泉はしっかりと堪能いたしました。さすがに、久々の出雲蕎麦、ついつい2件ハシゴしたせいでしょうか、すっかり満腹になってしまい、歩き疲れたせいもあるのでしょう、夜食もとらずに、すぐに寝入ってしまいました。
翌朝、起き抜けにひとっ風呂浴びてから、朝食会場へ。チェックイン時にフロントでお奨めいただいた本館9階「キャンドル」のバイキングをいただきました。
赤貝の炊き込みご飯と蜆の味噌汁は、さすがに美味しかった。
一見するとめざしのように見えたシシャモ(当然ですがカラフトシシャモ、またの名をカペリン)はしっかりと卵が詰まっていて、思いもかけず美味。スクランブルエッグは保温の設備がなくって冷めてしまっていたけれど、買えって火が通り過ぎずに丁度良い感じ。出来れば出来立てをいただきたかった。「あご野焼き」は島根のお約束。ドリンクは木次のパスチュライズド牛乳が嬉しい。日本橋島根館でもおなじみの美味しい牛乳です。
また、今回の旅行では嬉しいハプニングがありました。
珍鳥中の珍鳥、日本には極々稀な迷鳥として飛来する「ナキハクチョウ」が飛来しているとの情報をフロントの方から教えていただけたことです。

英名は「Trumpeter Swan」、私の知る限り、過去に宮城県と岩手県で1回ずつ記録があるのみです。結果的には双眼鏡を持参していなかったせいで発見できなかったのですが、久々に真剣に鳥を観る機会に恵まれ、非常に嬉しく、また悔しい思いをしました。
フロントマン氏はバードウォッチャーではないのですが、何気ない雑談の中でこちらの趣味や嗜好を汲み取り、実に的確な情報を伝えてくれたのには、脱帽です。コンシェルジェとはかくあるべし。
地方への出張で泊まるホテルとしては最高ランクを付けて良いと思います。
