I had a drink with a customer in downtown Shizuoka. I learned about "Fukuwarai", Izakaya (Japanese-style bar) where you can also eat Sushi, through a review and decided to visit. It's on the first floor of the Cappuccino Building in Konyamachi. The restaurant has 6 counter seats and 2 tables for 4 people. There is a raised platform in the back with 3 tables. It has a more relaxed atmosphere of Izakaya (Japanese-style bar) than a Sushi. We toasted with "Shizuoka Beer Draft Beer" (medium mug) for 650 yen. The appetizer was raw whitebait. It was fresh and not bitter. "Morokoshi Tempura" for 800 yen. We ate it with rock salt. I didn't know what kind of corn it was, but it was very sweet. It was freshly fried and steamy. "chicken dish" for 600 yen. I ordered it because it was on the counter and the surface was shiny and looked delicious. The meat was so soft that it came off the bone without any bites. The sweet and spicy seasoning with a hint of garlic is the key. "Assorted Sashimi" 2,500 yen This is horse mackerel, bonito, marinated mackerel, red tuna, medium fatty tuna, grouper, yellowtail (I think?), and octopus, all mixed with shiso leaves. The medium fatty tuna and yellowtail are very fatty. Looking at the display case, I saw some impressive octopus legs. I think it was that octopus, but it had a good chewiness and a rich flavor. "Steamed clams in sake" Price unknown It contains clams and plenty of soup. I wonder if the soup contains not only clam broth but also other seafood broths? The soup has a very good flavor, and I wish I had ordered it as a final dish. "Grilled eel Grilled skewer" (2 skewers) 800 yen It was a little small, but I'm glad I could eat it at this price. It has plenty of sauce, and is perfect as a snack with sake. We ordered Sushi "Chutoro", "Octopus", "Katsuo", "Hata", and "Shrimp". The balance between the toppings and the rice was good, and the size was bite-sized, which was just what we wanted. The shrimp was thick and chewy and delicious. The Chutoro was also an unusual dish with shiso and sesame in the rice. The richness of the Chutoro, the aroma of the shiso, and the sesame toast were delicious. We ordered "Garyubai" (1 go) 850 yen, "Ei-kun" (1 go) 850 yen, and "Kenbishi" (1 go) 400 yen. There aren't many brands. I was thinking that, but as if someone had read my mind, they said, "There are others too." Three types of "Shimeharitsuru" and "Suigei" were brought out. We had one go of each. (Price unknown) 16,600 yen for two people. We drank a fair amount of sake, ate Sushi, and ordered a sashimi platter, so I think this price is reasonable. Being able to enjoy Sushi in a casual atmosphere is appealing. Thank you for the meal.
