We took a lunch break near the Kinugawa River on the east side of Koyama, and walked a little further to Jichi Medical University. We went to Izakaya (Japanese-style bar) that mainly serves chicken dishes, located right in the heart of Jichi Medical University. In fact, I found out when I did some research that this izakaya is run by a company called Active, and that it is affiliated with Yasokichi, famous for its Niboshi Ramen, and Pinsuke, an Izakaya (Japanese-style bar) near Tobu Utsunomiya Station. When you go through the noren, you will see an L-shaped counter surrounding the kitchen, and several tables at the back. There is a man who seems to be the manager in charge of the grill, and there are three young women, so the place is quite lively. We ordered a Yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) bowl (1,150 yen). The lunch menu seems to be limited, and it is not specialized in chicken, with dishes such as ginger pork, Hamburg steak, and Seafood Bowl. The tray that was brought to us was quite lively. In particular, the main Yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) bowl was clearly packed with a variety of dishes. The thigh meat, grilled well over a charcoal grill with the skin side up, has a nice plump texture. Even as a breast meat lover, I was pleased with the doneness. The liver is cooked just before it gets too tough, leaving it with a sticky texture. The skin has a crunchy texture, but it's not at all difficult to eat, which is typical of skin. The sauce is a little on the thick side, but the balance between the soy sauce and the sweetness is good, and it's not too sweet, which is a good impression. In addition to the soft-boiled egg yolk, I was impressed by the way the green onions were grilled to bring out their sweetness. Under the green onions and lion peppers, there was even some minced chicken placed, showing just how carefully it was served. I was a little concerned that the rice was a little on the soft side, but it was a bowl of rice with a lot to enjoy. The classic fried chicken, the stir-fried chicken liver and chives, and the chicken nanban with homemade tartar sauce were also appealing. I also felt like visiting the sister restaurant Yasokichi for the first time in a while, and it seems that Pinsuke in Utsunomiya operates as Ramen shop during the day, so I've suddenly become interested in that as well (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
