I came to "Makibaoh". This is an Izakaya (Japanese-style bar) that mainly serves horse meat, located less than 10 minutes from JR Oyama Station. Visited after 5pm on a public holiday. I had made a reservation just in case, but there were only two groups of customers ahead of me, and I was led to a counter seat. The store is run by three people: the general manager and two female staff members. Everyone is young! While thinking this, I ordered a draft beer (499 yen). Otoshi (330 yen) is fried sweet potato with sesame dressing. Freshly fried and piping hot, sprinkled with a little salt, it goes well with beer. Next was the red meat cutlet (390 yen) and green pepper namul (299 yen). The store says that the price of lean cut horse meat is the cheapest in Japan, and I'm sure it's true. Soggy horse meat. I'm glad there's a decent amount of it. Green pepper namul is made by cutting green pepper into thin pieces and mixing them with sesame oil. It is sprinkled with salted kelp and white sesame seeds. It's refreshing and an excellent way to eat green peppers. Since I ran out of beer, I had the unsweetened frozen lemon sour (418 yen). There are two types of lemon sour, frozen regular and unsweetened, and there is also fresh lemon sour, so it's nice to have so many options. Next was a 3 piece platter of horse sashimi. Bamboo (1,500 yen) is the middle of the three types, including Shochikuumei. There were three types: top red meat, futaego, and mane. The refreshing taste of the red meat is good, and the texture of the futaego and mane is also good. When I asked what kind of sake they had, they gave me a menu of sake and shochu. From among them, choose ``Tamaka Special Junmai Sake'' (1,000 yen). This is a sake brewery in Otawara City, Tochigi Prefecture. When I looked at the bottle, I saw that it was wrapped in newspaper. There's a label on it, which means it's wrapped in newspaper before being shipped. It is interesting. When I drank it, it had a slightly sour taste and a little sweetness, which was a little different from my taste, but since I didn't have any other local Tochigi sake, I had another drink instead. Lastly, I ordered horsemeat Croquette (599 yen) because they were rare. Croquette were freshly fried and delicious with plenty of meat, but as expected, you wouldn't be able to tell if it was horsemeat until it became Croquette. The bill is 6,035 yen. They accept various payment methods other than cash, so I use d payment. I mainly ordered horse meat, which is the restaurant's specialty, but there were other standard Izakaya (Japanese-style bar) menu items as well. However, as expected, the taste of horse meat is amazing. Even though the young owner was busy, he took good care of me, and the female staff were friendly, making the shop a comfortable place even for someone like myself.
