茅場町まで行くことはあまりないので、おあつらえ向きに凄まじく空腹だったこともあって、連食でこちらへ。
辿り着いてみると、夜の立ち食い蕎麦屋とは思えない賑わい。なんじゃこれ、と思ってよく見てみると、皆さん日本酒片手に晩酌中。そんな中で異邦人よろしく〈かき揚げそば（冷）〉を発券しておかみさんに渡すと、「揚げ物は少し時間かかっちゃうんですが、いいですか」と言われる。
わずかなスペースに誘導されて待つ間、厨房の中を見てみれば、かき揚げをイチから揚げはじめた。中を見回すとお酒のアテも豊富だし、お酒も新潟の銘酒と言われるものが並ぶ。
どうも近所の勤め人がここで一杯やって帰るようだ。
それにしても賑わいが凄く、コロナが過去の脅威になりつつあるのを実感する。
さて、出て来た〈かき揚げそば〉。越後の蕎麦ということで、地方の蕎麦にありがちな醤油の淡さはやや私の好みと違うけれど、蕎麦そのものはなめらかでしっかりした出来だし、つゆの出来そのものもけして卑下したものではない。さらには、小えびやイカなどが賑やかに、かつ惜しげも無く使われた揚げたてのかき揚げも大したもので、町の蕎麦屋でこのレベルが出てきたら名店認定してしまう出来。それで520円だから、志が高いというよりほかない。
そして恐らく、豊漁でイワシが余っていることに目を付けたと思われるキャンペーンをやっていたり、ここは立ち食い蕎麦屋の装いをした角打ち型小料理屋だな。
一見でふらっと蕎麦を食いに来た異邦人気分だけど、なんか魅力がある。東京にはまだまだ、底の知れない店があるようだ。
