30年以上前、ロンドンで知り合った友人に久しぶりに会うことに。混んでいるところは嫌だし、2人とも酒飲みでアフタヌーンティーよりパブ。ということこちらで会うことにしました。
実はあるグループが以前Thirsty Thursday なる集まりをここで定期的に催していたので、お店の存在は知っていたのですが、大事な会議と重なっていて1度も参加できなかったのです。
改めて思い出し、お店のHPを見てみると、サンデーローストがある。今回の再会にちょうどいい。
お店に到着すると、少し前に着いた彼女以外、全て欧米人らしきお顔のお客さんが5〜6組。
まずはビールでしょう、と、彼女はホブゴブリンIPAを、私はホブゴブリン⚪︎⚪︎⚪︎IPAを。なんだか忘れたのですが、私の方が少し濃い感じ。
昔、イギリス人男性の友人に、女はパイントグラスで飲むな！と言われたことを思い出しながら、2人ともパイントグラスでぐびー、っと。
サンデーローストは、本日はビーフとラムとのこと。彼女がビーフ、私がラムです。
オーダーはカウターに行きますが、お料理もドリンクもテーブルまで持ってきてくれます。
ローストは正直、イギリスのパブクオリティ(要はそれほど･･･)でしたが、お野菜美味しかった。ブロッコリー、カリフラワー、ズッキーニ、グリーンピースなどがお肉の下にたっぷり盛られていて、茹で過ぎではありません！
揚げたポテトと、ヨークシャープディングも美味しかった。
相当な量なのに、飲み足りないから白ワインのボトル２本飲みながら、カラマリフリットと野菜スティック ブルーチーズソースも結局平らげてしまいました。滞在は5時間近く、にしても大酒飲みの老女2人でした。
