Last meal

It was late in the evening and there was not much left until closing time. I visited for lunch just before 1pm, but there was no line and I was shown in after waiting at the entrance for about 2 minutes. It was a good pace, with the next customers arriving just as a seat became available. Luckily, I was shown to the second floor. This was probably my last chance to see the inside of this building, so I memorized the beautifully aged walls and even the ornaments beside the stairs. I was warned that it would take about 20 minutes just for the yakitori bowl, but I ordered a large serving to finish off the meal. It was 1,300 yen. The teriyaki was juicy and everyone loved it. The crunchy texture of the chicken breast was a nice accent to the bowl. The minced meat was also delicious and not skimpy on the ingredients. The tamagoyaki was lightly seasoned with a light sweetness. I would have preferred it if it was a little more pronounced. There were also vegetables. The green onions had a sticky sweetness and a crispness that went together. The flavor of the Shishito pepper comes before the sharp spiciness, meaning that even people who don't like spicy food can enjoy it as Shishito pepper. The shiso leaves and pickles add to the flavor. It was a great way to end the meal. On my way out, I decided to ask, and was told that after the restaurant closes and is rebuilt, it will become an apartment building. It is not yet known whether a tenant will be moving into the first floor, and even if so, it will be more than a year before they can reopen for business. I have been to the restaurant many times since I found out about it last winter. It is sad to see such a great restaurant, both in terms of its building and its food, go, but I hope that the people involved in the restaurant will continue to do their best in the future.

The courtyard is charming even on rainy days

When I arrived just as the restaurant opened, there was a line of about five people. I was guided to a seat on the first floor with a dirt floor, so I was happy to have a good view of the courtyard. It was raining that day, but the courtyard with dripping water was also charming. The drops of water dripping off the maple leaves were very beautiful. I heard a conversation at a nearby table, and it seems that the story I heard on my last visit that the building will be replaced is true. Akasaka is a historic city that dates back to the Edo period, so I think that if old buildings are left intact, they will be valuable. If there are only buildings and the national income and prices are low, it seems that it will become no different from urban areas in Southeast Asia. Anyway, for lunch this week, I had fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce (1,000 yen). Unlike last time, it was brought to me in just over 15 minutes. Vegetables were laid out on a large plate, chicken was placed on top, and plenty of green onions were sprinkled on top. The white green onions were not spicy at all, and had a crisp and refreshing texture. The green onions were a little spicy, and added color to the appearance and taste. The chicken had a bright colored batter, and the texture was reminiscent of chicken tempura. The sauce had a sour vinegar taste, similar to ponzu sauce. The soup was clear as usual. The meatballs with crunchy cartilage were also delicious. Looking back, this, always kept in the corner of the tray, may be what I remember most. At this point, it is unclear whether the restaurant will be open in the future, but I hope that this flavor will be passed down somewhere. By the way, I noticed that the waiter that day was walking around the dirt floor without sandals, which was a bit strange. I understand that they are busy, but I hope that the people maintain their dignity, just like the building.

Cheese curry that is sure to be a hit with men

I found out on Instagram that they were closing before Golden Week, so I went there on short notice. They were closing due to reconstruction, and although it was in an alley in Akasaka, the old house with a small garden was luxurious and nice. When I entered the restaurant and waited at the sunken kotatsu, I heard a conversation from the table next to me. After reconstruction, it might become a building. That would be more profitable. I prefer quaint old houses to shiny buildings that make money, so it's a shame. As expected, the speed of serving was slow, just like last time. Now that I know that they are closing due to reconstruction, it is a precious time to relax in an old house. After about 25 minutes, the bowl arrived. It is the weekly menu "Chicken with cheese curry" (1,000 yen). The smell of the grilled cheese curry makes my mouth water, but I calm down and start with a salad. As usual, it is plentiful, and it is well mixed with the dressing, so it is satisfying. Now it's time for the main dish, grilled cheese curry. The crispy grilled chicken is topped with a generous amount of melted cheese. If you don't dislike cheese, this is a dish that everyone will find delicious. There were some mishaps, such as the spices clumping together in some places, making it spicy, and the rice I ordered as a small portion turned out to be a regular portion, but even with that out of the way, it was a satisfying lunch. The menu clearly appeals to men, so I thought it was a shame that the customers were mostly office ladies, as usual.

PR for restaurants

Located in the back alleys of Akasaka, the traditional Japanese house of Akasaka Kitoraya, the head obi store, is the restaurant "Chicken Cuisine Yoi-no-Kuchi."
