A Chinese Cuisine restaurant located on the 2nd floor down a side street halfway up Kagurazaka. As you can see, the signboard is based on red and says it's Local Cuisine from Hunan province, but I was hesitant to go in because the menu displayed outside looked like almost all of the dishes contained chili peppers. I wanted to give my body a boost during the cold season, so I plucked up the courage to go in. The interior is clean and lined with tables that look like an old-fashioned Coffee shops, and the scent of oil that is unique Chinese Cuisine restaurants wafts through the air. When I looked at the menu and was having trouble deciding what to order because everything seemed to be spicy, someone who appeared to be the owner gave me advice and told me that some of the dishes were surprisingly not spicy, and that it was possible to adjust the spiciness for really spicy items. So, I ordered [Spicy hot pot with cabbage and Hunan smoked meat] for 1,188 yen and [Very spicy stew of beef] for 1,408 yen, both with less spiciness. It arrived in about 10 minutes, and the cabbage and smoked meat looked like double-roasted meat, with the smoky aroma and aroma of roasted meat. The sweetness and umami of the fat were well balanced with the spicy spices, and the complex flavor was delicious without being too spicy. Then there's the super spicy stew of beef, which looks like rib soup at Yakiniku (Grilled meat), but it's definitely spicy. When I gingerly sipped the soup, I found that it was spicy... but delicious... There was a strong kick from the chili peppers, but more than that, there was the flavor and richness of the beef soup base, and the vegetables such as bean sprouts. The sweetness permeated the super-tender stewed beef, resulting in a very delicious rib soup. It was a scary gap, and I was hooked. I would like to try and compare the many other Hunan dishes in the future.
