ある老舗グルメ雑誌で知った、下町は神田の寿司屋。創業間も無く120年。老舗に目がない私としては、訪れる機会を虎視眈々と待っておりました。
13時前の入店。快く招き入れられ、奥のテーブル席に着座しました。名物、ちらし大盛り（1300円税込）を発注します。こちらのちらし、小桶の表面埋め尽くすだけでなく、ピラミッド型にネタが盛り高く積まれているというもの。パッと見る限り、赤身を中心に、ぶりやサーモンの切り落とし、トロやイカなど豪勢なエクステリアとなっています。
しかし、豪勢な見かけとは裏腹に、ネタをほじくっていくと箸が止まってしまいます。堆いピラミッドのコア部分には、ポテサラやさつま揚げなど、とても寿司ネタとは思えないものが入っていて、事実上の嵩上げ。確かにこの情報は前出の老舗紹介本にも書かれていたのですが、あくまで事後確認です。また、トップの魚卵類には明太子が含まれていたりとかします。
ま、こうしたネタを除いたとしても、そもそもたっぷりの海鮮類が入っていて、1300円では安いほどだとは思いますが、やっぱりベースとなる酢飯にポテサラや明太子が合うかと言われると、同意し兼ねます。なんでも盛りゃあいいってもんじゃない。安いネタを使うにしても、トータルのバランス感を考えて欲しいものです。
ちなみに、夜のコースは期待できそうでした。
