The rich soup tastes like a long-established restaurant
Namiki Yabu... has recently reopened. However, it retains the old-fashioned atmosphere and the taste remains the same. This is the essence of a long-established restaurant. Namiki is a restaurant wher |
One of the "Japanese Yabu Gosanke" along with Kanda and Ikenohata. Founded in 1913, it has a history of over 100 years. After being established in Kyobashi by the third son of Kanda Yabu Soba's founder, Shichibei Hotta, the restaurant opened in 1993 along the Namiki-dori street leading to Kaminarimon. There are many dishes that are not on the menu, such as "Kamo Nanban" loved by novelist Shotaro Ikenami and "Ten Nuki" loved by writer Hitomi Yamaguchi. The authentic way to eat the soup, which is said to be the spiciest in Tokyo, is to dip it in just a little. ◆Location 1 minute walk from Asakusa Station ◆Business hours 11:00-19:30 (last order 19:00) Open on Sundays ◆Closed Wednesdays and Thursdays ◆Crowding situation I visited on a public holiday lunch. I was able to get in right away. ◆Today I ordered [Ten Zaru Soba] (¥2200). The restaurant is located along Namiki-dori street in front of Kaminarimon. Although the shop curtain was hanging, there was no sign saying "Open," giving the restaurant a sense of dignity. When I opened the door, the staff immediately noticed me and guided me to a seat. When I asked for recommendations, they told me that the [Yamakake] and [Tenzaru Soba] were popular, so I ordered [Tenzaru Soba] this time. Because it is located in Asakusa, there are more foreign tourists than Japanese people in the restaurant. If you listen carefully, you can hear various languages being spoken. Within a few minutes of ordering, [Tenzaru Soba] arrived at the table. There was one "shishito" Tempura and about four "small shrimp" tempura. As it looks, it has a crispy batter. [Tenzaru] seems to be the same as the soup used when eating tempura and the one used when eating soba. I usually prefer to eat it with a bamboo steamer, so it's been a while since I've had warm soup. First, when I eat the soba as is, I feel the sweetness of the soba itself, but when I put it in the soup, the original taste of the soba seems to be amplified. Therefore, it felt like a well-calculated way to ensure that the bonito flavor was not too strong. I was reluctant to dunk the tempura in the broth as the fat would float to the top, but when I ate the soba first I was unsure what to do with the spring onions and wasabi. I placed a little on top of the soba and ate it, and was thrilled by the sweetness of the wasabi. The shrimp had a firm texture and the crispy batter was captivating. There was more volume than I expected, and although I thought it was small at first, it was just the right amount. The speedy service was excellent, with the soba noodles being cleared away while I was paying the bill. It was a quaint soba restaurant.
