今日は日暮里で早めのランチ。
幾度となくスルーしてきた、駅前のステーションポートタワーにあるカレー屋「エベレストカレー」へ。
エスカレーターで上階に上がり、3階にあるはずの店を目指すも、ここはどうやら店の裏口。
しばらく入口を探してうろちょろし、結局、建物の外側に店の入口を見つけた。
掲示物がごちゃごちゃと貼り出され、雑多な印象の外観。
一目ではわかりづらい入口のドアを開け、中へ。
店内は、南国の食堂のようなカジュアルな雰囲気。
11時を回ったばかりで、当然、先客はなし。
奥のテーブル席につく。
ランチメニューを見て、タンドリーチキンとカレー2種類がセットになった「スペシャルセット」（1,050円）を選択。
カレーの選択肢の中に日替わりがないのが残念。
無難にポークとキーマを選び、辛さは激辛、ドリンクはラッシーにする。
「普通のナン？」と聞かれ、「はい、普通のナンで」と返す。
この店ではプラス料金でナンを変更するのがおすすめのようだ。
テレビから昼のニュースが流れる。
ちょっと耳障りな音量だけど、店員さんに言うほどでもないか。
しばらくすると店員が1人増え、2人体制に。
待つこと7分ほどで、さっき入ったばかりの店員さんから「すみません、お待たせしましたー」と配膳。
サラダも含めて一式をプレートにのせるスタイル。
そこからラッシーが運ばれてくるまでにやや時間が空く。
たぶん忘れてたんだと思う。
サラダから手をつける。
キャベツとレタスに、市販のものと思われる甘めのドレッシング。
市販じゃないとしたら、甘くしすぎな気がする。
カレーはどちらもまったく辛くない。
注文がちゃんと伝わってなかったんじゃないかと思うほど。
ポークはバターチキン、キーマはカレーのそぼろ煮といった味わい。
辛さを求めなければ、普通においしい。
ナンは塩気と甘みのバランスがいい感じ。
普段ならおかわりするところだけど、カレーのパンチがないから、ここはおかわりなしで乗り切ることにした。
タンドリーチキンは塩胡椒がたっぷりまぶされ、スパイシー。
味はいいけど、パサつき気味。
ラッシーは、氷が多い分、少なく感じる。
氷で薄まることを想定してか、甘さは強め。
ナンのおかわりはしなかったけど、全部食べたらお腹いっぱい。
メニューを見てて気になったのが、「カブリナン」というナン。
会計時に店員さんに聞いたところ、ナッツやココナッツを使った甘いナンとのこと。
なるほど。
他の店では見ないから、今度食べてみてもいいかもしれない。
最後に店員さんから一言。
「辛さ大丈夫でした？」
「はい、全然辛くなかったです」
「辛い粉かけました？」
「え、いえ…」
そんな粉が用意されてたとは。
卓上にあったようだけど、まったく目に入らなかった。
それなら先に言ってほしかった。
最後の一言で、急に辛さを損した気持ちになった。
いや、そもそも、あらかじめ辛さを指定してるわけだから、辛さ調節を客任せにしないでほしいんだけど。
というツッコミを胸に、店を後にした。
