At the southwest corner of the big intersection of Meguro-dori and Yamate-dori, Otori Shrine, famous for its Tori-no-ichi festival, was founded in 806. I remember the owner of actress Okuyama Kae's family restaurant, Chinese restaurant Bijusu (Kae's father), who used to be located right by the west exit of Meguro, talking about the splendor of Tori-no-ichi as a parishioner of Otori Shrine. I'm sure he also took part in the 1200th anniversary festival in 2006. https://tabelog.com/tokyo/A1316/A131601/13012672/dtlrvwlst/B115626635/ In fact, when I lived in Kansai, there was also an Otori Shrine in Otori Kita-cho, Nishi-ku, Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, and I was familiar with it from my childhood, but the one in Sakai is the head shrine of Otori faith, so when I found it in Meguro, I felt a sense of familiarity. According to Wikipedia, the shrine in Meguro is said to have been a place where people prayed for the cure of eye diseases and were successfully cured, and was called Mekuragami (God of the Blind). This "mekura" gradually became corrupted, and the shrine became the origin of the place name "Meguro." As I was passing by at lunchtime, I went into Sukiya, which is located directly opposite the shrine, on the northwest corner of the intersection. I ordered "[b: Mini Gyudon (Beef bowl)]" (290 yen) on the touch panel, topped it with pickled ginger, and gobbled down the usual unchanging flavor. I received Rakuten points and paid with PayPay. It was easy.
