定食C(650円)
住宅地のどまんなかにある揚げ物食堂。経堂駅からも、世田谷通り農大からも、どちらから歩いても15〜20分だろうか。近くに繁華街とか、交通量の多い通りとかもない。住宅地なので人通りも少ない。かなり古くからの店のようだが、このような場所で商売を続けるコツを教えてもらいたい。
開店してややすぐに入店。コロナ禍なので客は少ないだろう。そう思った。ところがぽつりぽつりと客がやってきて、ほぼ満席となる。恐るべし美よし。
定食Cはメンチカツととりカツ(2)のコンビだ。キャベセンとともにもられ提供される。味噌汁、ご飯、つけもの。何ら過不足のない定食だ。安くするあまり驚くほど小さいおかずを出す店を知っているが、ここはごく普通サイズ。揚げ物が多いが、注文の都度、主人が揚げる。
鳥のフライは○○産の地鶏といったブランドのものではない。母親が、学校近くの定食屋のおばさんが作ってくれたそれに近い。何より揚げたてがいい。そしてメンチカツ、これが驚くほど美味い。柔らかく、ジューシーなのだ。これならメンチカツ定食でも良かったのではと、後悔するほど美味い。
場所柄、店の維持費が安いせいもかるのか分からないが、これだけの質量の定食をこの価格で提供していることに敬意を評したい。
