パイナップルは、衣装持ちだ。衣装持ちはきまぐれだと誤解されやすい。あちこちにお呼ばれされるたびにふさわしい装いが必要になり、自然な流れで装った姿を周りから品評されることになる。一体、どれがパイナップルの本当の姿なのか。地味な野菜たちには決して向けられない陰口が、派手なパイナップルをぐるりと取り巻いている。
デミグラスソースに似合うように、輪切りにされてはフライパンに寝転んでみる。焦げ目はついたけど、パイナップルはどこか無理をしているように感じる。それでも洋食の食材に選ばれているのだから、仲良しのふりをする。あつあつのデミグラスソースを纏った姿が、自分らしいのかどうか、考えまいと微笑んでみせる。
酢豚のあんかけに似合うように、バラバラに弾けてみる。ピーマンもニンジンもあんかけのプールで楽天的に泳ぎ回っているから、自分は邪魔者ではないのだと、パイナップルはほっとできた。しかしそれもつかの間のことだった。「えー、パイナップルってなんで酢豚に入ってんのを！中華じゃん！」無邪気で、残酷な言葉がパイナップルをぎこちなくさせる。今度はもう少し目立たないようにしよう。でも、本当はパイナップルは悪くないのだ。
疲れたときは衣装を脱いで、生まれたままの姿で缶詰のシロップに漬かってぷかぷか遊ぶ。南国育ちで押しに弱いパイナップルは、衣装持ちで健気なパッションフルーツなのだ。
