I visited the restaurant just after 11am on a certain day in December 2021. It is Tempura Izakaya (Japanese-style bar) called "Hyakuten Manten" located on the second floor of a building just outside the ticket gates of JR Oji Station. There were no other customers in the casual and reasonably sized restaurant. I sat alone at a table and ordered the "Jo Ten-don (tempura rice bowl)" from the lunch menu for 879 yen. I waited about 10 minutes for it to be served. The tempura Ten-don (tempura rice bowl) was topped with shrimp, squid, puffer fish, maitake Tempura, lotus root, and green beans, and came with miso soup and pickled eggplants. I started with Ten-don (tempura rice bowl) tempura bowl. I tried the Tempura tempura with rice, but the sweetness of the sauce bothered me. I would have preferred a sauce with a bit more flavor. The somewhat sharp sweetness bothered me. The squid Tempura was large and satisfying. The shrimp was modest in size, but had a good bite. The light taste of the puffer fish was also not bad. Tempura was well drained and not sticky, which was a good impression. Tempura bowl has a variety of Ten-don (tempura rice bowl) options, but it's not very filling. That being said, it may be reasonable considering the price. The miso soup and pickled shibazuke are quite normal in taste. This is Izakaya (Japanese-style bar) with the concept of enjoying Tempura at a reasonable price, so it's best to enjoy it without expecting too much from the taste. Next time, I'd like to visit at night and have some tempura and Tempura. It's also nice that it's close to the station.
