I visited after 1pm on a certain day in May 2023. Tafukuro Jujo Ekimae Branch is a Chinese Cuisine restaurant located about a minute walk from Jujo Station and is said to be the birthplace of the noodle dish Chabon. There were no customers in the not-so-large store. I sat alone at a table and ordered ``Ishiyaki Mapo Tofu'' (¥850) from the lunch menu. The food is served after waiting about 10 minutes. Lunch includes piping hot mapo tofu served in a stone pot, salad, rice, soup, and pickles. First, try eating mapo tofu. The spiciness is not too strong, and the umami of the tofu is effective, making it a perfect side dish for rice. The tofu was cut into smaller pieces, but I felt it would have been better if it were a little larger. It's best to eat mapo tofu while snacking on a salad with sesame dressing to refresh your mouth. Pour piping hot mapo tofu over rice, snack on salad, and drink the thick soup. Although it was a small amount, the presence of pickled cucumbers made me very happy. Mapo tofu is not very flavorful. It's good to eat as a side dish with rice or on its own. Enjoy the well-balanced stone-grilled mapo tofu set meal while paying attention to the order in which you eat it. I was careful about how much mapo tofu and rice I ate, and I finished it all in the right order. The mapo tofu lunch at Tafukuro was just the right amount of satisfaction. At a price of 850 yen, it feels like a good deal. Next time I would like to try the famous chabon.
