Enter Ichibangai from the Akabane East Exit, turn right at the corner of the multi-tenant building, walk for a while, pass the park, and find it on the corner. Next door is Tsukudani [a:13161835, Funakin]. I visited by myself on a weekday night...I seem to have gotten into the habit of getting off at Akabane and wandering around the downtown area...(lol) This place has been in business for 44 years and was really popular with local residents. It's a beloved store. The inside of the restaurant has a raised area with two tables and counter seats in the back, perfect for drinking alone. The menu is written on a wooden board and changes daily, but there aren't that many items. On this day, I had minke whale, so I decided to have it with sashimi and Steak, both of which were cheap at ¥800, and the beer was a large bottle of Sapporo Akahoshi for ¥700. Whale sashimi...it's soft and delicious, and has a taste that's different from either animal meat or fish. It's definitely part of Japanese food culture, and I served it with ginger. After that, I had the whale Steak, which was marinated in some kind of sauce and came from a different place than the previous sashimi, and was sautéed... It also had a unique flavor with a bit of garlic. Lastly, we had the boiled conger eel, which was boiled and then cooled with its juice, so it had a simmered consistency. For alcoholic beverages, I switched to barley shochu ``Kichishiroku'' mixed with hot water, and headed home to warm up my slightly chilled body. Although it's a high-quality restaurant, it doesn't get much attention...It's not a high-class restaurant, but it's a restaurant that you can enjoy in a relaxed manner. Thank you for the meal.
