At the end of our trip to Yamagata, we had lunch at Shonai Airport. I was a tonkatsu fan at a locally famous Hirata Farm restaurant, and since I had the tonkatsu on my first day, I ordered charcoal-grilled chicken udon. I was excited to see if it would be a hit or miss with a dish that was unfamiliar to me, combining charcoal-grilled chicken with udon noodles, but it turned out to be a hit! It was correct! The charcoal-grilled chicken went well with the lightly flavored soup stock, which is rare in Tohoku, and it tasted like a closing dish at Izakaya (Japanese-style bar), so it was really delicious! The noodles were medium-thick, soft around the edges, and chewy at the core, which was a texture I was not used to, and it was satisfying, delicious, and filling. The set came with 2 pieces of pork cutlet, and when I ate them together with specially ordered burdock chips, I was full (lol). It was a delicious trip to Yamagata until the end!
