On this day, I went to Yamagata Prefecture for the first time in quite a while. This is a local restaurant located inside the Shonai Tourism and Products Center in Tsuruoka. I visited around 12:30, and since it was a weekday, about half of the tables were occupied. I ordered the Ten Mugi Kiri, which is a set of tempura and Shonai specialty "Mugi Kiri". It is 1,300 yen including tax. This is the first time I've heard of ``Mugikiri,'' but as you can see, it's a type of udon with thin noodles. It is said that it has a smooth texture, but the texture is similar to Inaniwa udon or Himi udon. Actually, I can't seem to distinguish it from Inaniwa udon other than the way it's plated, but apparently the manufacturing method is different, and Mugikiri is made by cutting flat noodles into thinner pieces with a knife. I like both Inaniwa and Himi udon, so Mugikiri was also very delicious. It's only natural that it's a local product store, but it's not limited to barley kiri, it also has a variety of local dishes that you'll want to try, such as cold cod soup, making it a great restaurant for those new to Yamagata.
