今回が3回目となる山口の旅で、初めて「瓦そば」を食べました。
昨年秋、ANAのキャンペーンで、羽田ー山口宇部空港の航空券を購入した目的は、初めて島根県の津和野を観光するためでした。当初、津和野でランチを頂くつもりで、山口市を通過する予定でしたが、ニューヨークタイムズで取り上げられたこともあり、有名な「瓦そば」を食べたことがなかったので、「元祖 瓦そばたかせ ごはん処りゅう庵」にランチで寄りました。
11時前に店に到着して入店すると、一番乗りで、テーブル席に着くやいなや、定番の「瓦そば」一人前を注文しました。
15分程度で出来上がり、300℃に熱した瓦のうえに、たっぷりの茶そばが乗っており、定員さんから瓦に触らないように注意を促されつつ、お品書きの食べ方を見よう見まねで食べ始めました。
まず、熱々のそばと具を暖かいつゆに潜らせて一口、なかなかの良い味わいです。食べ進めていくうちに、瓦で焼けたそばの歯ごたえもいいアクセントになり、すぐに完食してしまいました。
うな丼と瓦そばのセットも定番メニューですが、今回は腹八分目で津和野に向けて出発しました。
